Submissions Now Open + August Press Updates
Every abode is unique to the person who lives there, and we want to read it all!
Today is the day: Abode is officially open for chapbook submissions! Plus, our first workshop is coming up next month.
Chapbook Submissions
At Abode, we’re interested in work that discusses identity, origin, and culture. Every abode is unique to the person who lives there. We want to read about the ghosts in your closet, the heritage that guides your cooking, the cultural emblems that decorate your walls. Because when someone invites you into their abode, they’re letting you see a piece of themselves. At Abode, we believe it’s important to prioritize these narratives to create a world with better empathy, understanding, and compassion for others.
Send us your prose, poetry, and everything in between. For poetry, send up to 30 pages. For prose and hybrid, send up to 60 pages.
Submissions will be open until November 30th across genres.
Abode not only prioritizes marginalized voices but is also run by marginalized writers and editors. We understand how important it is to level the playing field. Submission fees are on a sliding scale with five different options ranging from $5 to $20. Fee waivers for marginalized writers are also available.
More details about submissions and our author package can be found here. We can’t wait to read your work!
Donate to Abode
If you have the means, consider making a tax-deductible donation to Abode! We are committed to bringing quality literature to the world and your contributions are a vital part of that mission. Donations are used to cover printing and distribution, press tools and software, and author advances. More can be found on our donations page.
Workshops
At Abode, we believe offering affordable workshops is important so all writers can have access to writing tools and community engagement.
Our first community workshop is coming soon! Mark your calendar for Writing Queer & Trans Joy with Poetry Editor SG Huerta on September 6th, 6pm CST. This generative workshop is will be held on Zoom and costs $10 to attend. Check out the description below:
Joy is a radical thing for the marginalized. Informed by Billy-Ray Belcourt’s writing on queer BIPOC joy, this generative workshop is all about joy and its revolutionary potential. We will discuss contemporary poems centered on queer and trans joy, write two to three pieces of our own, and have the option to share our work. We’ll even talk about the problems with compulsory joy and what to do when writing joy feels impossible. This workshop is based in poetry but welcomes participants of any genre!
You can learn more about the workshop and register here.
Thank you to everyone who has supported Abode Press in the months leading up to our launch. We’re looking forward to spending time with your words!
