Abode Virtual Summer Retreat - open until January 30th
Applications are still open for our second Virtual Retreat!
During the month of June 2025, we will have workshops available in poetry, fiction, speculative fiction, and nonfiction led by Ariana Brown (poetry), mónica teresa ortiz (poetry), Kayla Kumari Upadhyaya (speculative fiction), Stephanie Macias (fiction), and KB Brookins (nonfiction). Attendees will also be able to attend 2-3 craft talks and lectures throughout the week.
The retreat costs $250-$400 (sliding scale). Because of this low price, applicants will be selected based off the strength of their application and alignment with our values as a press.
It is FREE to apply (though we greatly appreciate donations!) and applicants will be notified of acceptance in mid-March. All funds will go towards paying our presenters, press operations, and paying Retreat admins. Learn more and send your application by January 30th here!
Reconnecting to the Body Through Fairy Tales - February 26th, 6:30pm-8pm CT
Affordable virtual workshops is a staple of Abode programming, and our 2025 workshop lineup is live!
First up in our workshop series is Reconnecting to the Body Through Fairy Tales led by Leticia Urieta! Tickets for this workshop are $25 ($10 for writers in need).
Fairytales, fables, myths and traditional stories across cultures offer opportunities to explore our relationships to our bodies and the stories that we tell about them. In this open genre workshop, participants will be invited to engage in a variety of readings of creative nonfiction, poetry, speculative and dark fiction and more to that connect us to a deeper knowledge of ourselves and will work through a series of discussions and generative writing activities to help them write the stories of their bodies through the lens of traditional stories. This workshop is open to new and experienced writers 18+.
